Every renewable energy installation is eligible to receive a subsidy from the federal government in the from of technology certificates. There are two different technology certificates you can receive.
Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs)
STCs are available for all solar installations under 100kW, which cover the vast majority of solar installations. Each STC has a value which can change on a daily basis as they are traded and claimed (just like a small stock market), and the amount of certificates you can claim will vary depending on the power output and the location of your system. The total price for these STCs will usually come off the upfront cost of your solar system, so there is no claims process or documentation to fill out. If you have received a quote, check that the STCs are listed and the total amount is shown.
Large-Scale Generation Certificates (LGCs)
LGCs are only available on 100kW and over solar systems. LGCs are created on a yearly basis based on the amount of power that your system generates. Unlike STCs, LGCs are paid to the owner of the solar system on a yearly ongoing basis and not as an upfront discount.
With the majority of installed commercial solar systems under 100kW, STCs are the most common form of rebates available and reduce the upfront cost for many small and medium sized businesses.
There are other incentives available depending on what type of business you’re in, like interest free and low rate green loans, and you could even be eligible for a government grant to help your business go green.
